1st run: I might have sequence break by entering lava abusing the nano shield, when nearing the end, mark says I still have some bioweapons to collect, then the game froze upon getting the jet engine. 2nd run: I tried to follow the game events, got pretty much all upgrades (at least that I'm aware of), it ended the exact same way.
3rd run: I ran through the early game getting all 3 required upgrades to go see mark as early as possible, same issue yet again. Might be just a me problem but I really don't know why this keeps happening in seemingly different situations. Is Mark supposed to say that everytime or does he have another dialogue?
I don't know why the jet engine upgrade crashes your game. It works perfectly on my end. I can't trigger it to crash at all. I will change the nanoshield so it no longer blocks lava. I've also fixed Mark respawning but I haven't uploaded that build yet, but I will.
I tried it on the old win 10 version and it does give me the "dash engine" without freezing. Just to mention it and make sure, I was playing the current latest SAGE version (it's the version in which the freeze happens). The screenshot is the text prompt when the freeze occurs.
I've had a good time but a few things could be improved.
First is the X swing, way too powerful against everything that is grounded and has rendered a few bosses a joke. Sure the boss that guards it is super tricky to defeat, but that was until I found the right wall and used that to have enough room to react to the boss passing through.
Second is the way the powerup selection is done, I'd rather you make it more like super metroid, where one button selects and another activates, it could even have them start when the button is pressed removing their start delay.
Third is the general directionless after getting dash, if I hadn't committed to memory the 3x2 room in sector 2 that screamed to me that it was a boss room prior to getting dash, I'd be in more trouble. You get an initial marker the first time you visit each sector, but after that it's pure guess which box could contain the next boss. Specially since I've already been to every corner of sector 3 prior to getting dash.
Doesn't help the one scientist helping you gets done in when you get dash. So navigation rooms just become decor then.
Bugs:
Gun sometimes gets looping the reload bar while at full ammo, will cause a reload to happen when it completes the rectangle and the player has depleted some ammo.
Sector changed states don't seem to like to stick, entering some rooms causes those sectors to revert to their original state. Sector 2 reverted to its original state after defeating the boss in lava. Same for sector 4. Unsure if defeating them was intended, I'm sure it reverting when some rooms are entered is unintended.
Problem I've had is I've seem to have sequence broken the game by getting X swing prior to getting dash. There might be one boss left in sector 3 as that's the one sector that isn't changing back on its own. I'll comment again if I do find a solution or if I do give up.
Update: there was a boss remaining in sector 3 and after that I was given the upgrade for generators upon returning to the hub.
The unintended thing here seems to be Nano Shield completely protecting the player from lava damage even after it's depleted. That's what allowed me to just waddle through lava with little to no consequence.
Update 2: beat the game, cheese all around, after dying several times to the final boss I managed to do a simple loop with nano shield up and defeated it without taking damage. That boss having an instakill that bypasses invincibility was annoying and it even activated that while it was on its death animation on the previous attempt.
I'm sorry for busting up the intended order of the bosses, the challenge was all messed up because of it.
Thanks for playing! I've been listening to all the recent reviews from SAGE 2024 and fixed A LOT of the issues! I'm definitely going to change the nanoshield, sectors becoming uncorrupted after killing the bosses, nerfing the x swing, guidance for the player after getting the dash, etc... as well.
//fixed
- XGA leaving returns original music
- escaping XGA resets the XGA detection orbs so they will work again
- XGA stab death animation after player is already dying glitch, has been fixed
- Boss grace period flashes at lower transparency
- sector 4 one way door skip has been fixed. The door is now further away from the switch so you cannot hit the switch on the otherside anymore.
- killing turtle boss while spinning no longer keeps playing the whirlwind sfx after
- slowed ability usage down to -1 ammo per second
- nerfed nuclearblast a lot!
- nerfed spiked mine damage from 4 to 2
- picking up any upgrades while in the X saber spin animation no longer freezes player
- control remapping now always uses the same input as original 'jump' so it's less confusing
- sector 1 regular ost now loops more smoothly
- The Room Mark is hiding out now doesn't respawn
- Screen size settings are saved when any changes are made. Loaded immediately upon starting the game.
- Audio settings are saved when any changes are made. Loaded immediately upon starting the game.
- Control Remapping settings are saved when any changes are made. Loaded immediately upon starting the game.
Incredible game. Towards the end I experienced some bugs (note: I just realized I was playing an older version accidentally) (namely with door collision ceasing to exist, allowing me to collect some items early) but nothing game-ruining. I love the freedom of the walljump especially, the way I was allowed to collect so many items early with precise timing felt great.
It’s been a bit but I don’t remember anything getting in the way of the fun, so it’s hard to think of suggestions. Everything feels precise and intentional and that’s great
The bass of swinging the beam sword and spin jumping is way too intense, lol. For the first time in years I had been asked to turn my speakers down. Could you take a look at the sound effects and do a tweaking pass to tune it down? Other than that I'm having a blast!
Thanks for playing! In my dev version I've added a better options menu to adjust not only audio but other things too. I'm gonna update itch.io, though I'm not sure what to do about the linux versions as Game Maker handles licenses differently now.
this is an amazing game, lots of passion went into it. If you see this, I’m stuck without the black striped door upgrade, the scanning door upgrade, and the plug upgrade. Any hints, my map is complete besides these obstacles
as far as bugs, my map was really buggy. My custom markers would multiply, move, and delete at whim. The games markers would do the same. I also would randomly lose health and die after beating these two bosses, the snail and robot ones that are next to eachother (after getting dash). It just started draining despite no enemies or hazards nearby, while I was still in the boss room
last feedback, I wish I knew the map was going to change before I triggered the dash/monster chasing stuff!
Yo know its been a while since I have played this game I had stopped playing it cause of a bug but I remember before I had delt with that bug it was really fun the xga wasn't just some ai with a tracking system it moved around the area you where in which was cool but if you ever get around to it a really cool thing for this game would be to give a mobile version so i can play it on the go 👍😁
Hi! It's been a long time since I've checked out these comments. I'm glad to see my game left a positive impression for you despite the bug 😅
Though I can't do a mobile version because game maker studio 2 makes you pay a subscription now, and I'm not gonna give them money for a scummy forced subscription when the original version I bought wasn't one.
No it's probably working on win7 since it works on win10 for me. I put that message there in the past because I someone had played it on win7 (I think?) but it didn't work for them somehow.
im very sad i had to restart my game cause monkey did not drop and i had no way of progressing the game with out abusing the bug so ima not abuse and try to get monky to drop what u need
Sorry about that! It looks like my game still needs more work done on it. Thanks for telling me about this bug. Did you try re entering the room after killing the gorilla boss?
Hi! Great game, thanks a lot! Two questions (if i may...) : ¿is it possible to enter the motion sensor doors? I've walked the map up and down, I think I have all the upgrades, I only have to go fight the final boss, but I can't access this doors. And 2) ¿any tip to in how hurt the final boss? Any little advice or orientation will be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Thanks. So for the motion sensor doors (the ones with the blue eye diamond that can detect you and shut it's door), you need the invisibility upgrade which iirc you get from fighting a boss in sector 2 when there's lava everywhere, at the place where you escape the big flower boss's area.
Developer, I'd like to correct you on something. Re-entering the room the gorilla boss fight takes place after beating itwill respawn the required item. I've no idea why or how this works, but it did for me.
If this doesn't work, feel free to call me a liar. It worked for me, and I hope it works for you too, other players.
Have fun!
Update: I have just now finished the game, and man, am I excited for the possible sequel teased in the ending.
Oh thank god it worked! Also, I seemed to spawn the item recently somehow, by quitting the game and reloading my save file after killing the gorilla, but I didn't know what was happening or if others would be able to do this trick.
Also, glad to hear you liked the game :) as for a sequel, I'm probably not gonna do one and instead (if I ever get access to Game Maker studio again) just expand the original (I wanted to make a final area for the final boss fight).
Some pointers though, I like sequence breaking, but this kinda messes with the game in some ways:
Fyy: I played sectors 1 and 3 before finishing sector 2. Also explored sector 4 a bit
-I managed to get about 04 charging bonus things before getting the charge beam
-I feel I got the atomic power up way before I was supposed to. I got it in sector 3, by using the force field thing to be able to walk on lava without taking damage. Also, if you have that active, you don't take damage while on lava even if you don't have any ammo for it.
-I got the purple charge beam and immediately went back to the main hub, I was able to reach the Mark character (when he gets killed and you get the dash). I don't think I was supposed to be there, as I never learned he was the "????" (I'm guessing)
-After that I was able to just pass through that other area with the giant power plug thing, even though I never opened those barriers.
-Selecting your power up thing using L2 and R2 is pretty awkward as well, I feel I can never quite select what I want. Maybe try to think of some other option for that.
Other than that, I'm having a blast. Great game.
Also, you should consider creating a Reddit for your game, and maybe even posting it on r/metroidvania
Dinar87, this is your game? I am live with it as we speak. I had to pause and tell you that over the years I’ve played a lot of fangames, this is by far one of the BEST I’ve played, ever! There is nothing about this game I don’t like. So many people are loving it! You’re about to get hundreds of downloads! I run a Facebook group based on rom hacks. It would be an honor if you joined !
The game is super fun but there are some glitches like the plug in sector 0 I can just walk through it for some reason without it on and this goes for some of the doors that open with shock waves and the XGA is almost impossible to lose like sector 4 it loops so much that XGA will never lose you but I like the whole free Rome you gave and the fact that it has to see you and being in the same room won't have it see you cause that's a problem for some stalker enemies like Mr x from RES2 where if your in the same room it's most likely it will know your there but again has some bugs and I'm stuck this is after the XGA kills the science guy and I have dash but I have no idea how the plugs work so I'm not going in sector 0 plug room until I figure out how to open it without cheesing it and like i killed the monkey so thats done and i dont know where to get the thing (if there is one) to open the blue doors
You would not believe how long I have been looking for this game, had this years ago for my computer before my dad reset it, I've been looking for this game ever since! I'm so happy, I'm almost crying! :)
I've always felt like Fusion was to restrictive when it came to exploration, And this game helped deliver an experience that would be similar to an Non Linear Fusion! Also The Sword Is the best!
And I believe some transitions are off, eg. when transitioning from sec 3 to sec 2 via that hidden pathway, I see that lava from 3 is flowing down and flooding 2. But if I enter another in 2 and return, the lava is gone. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Though if you ever want to try making your own game one day, I'd advise you don't playtest your game yourself (like I did playing through every level hundreds of times, just looking for bugs), but have others do it for you if possible. Otherwise you'll get burnt out on making your game and start to hate it.
Very cool demo so far! Lots of Metroid Fusion vibes. One thing that stuck out to me is the damage flash that enemies recieve when getting hit. When damaged, they turn white and fade back to their original sprite quickly. If you hit them while the white is fading, there is no visual inidication that they're taking damage. Because of this, I ended up going through most of the demo thinking that attacking enemies too fast meant that only half my hits were doing damage. To solve this, simply make it so the damage flash can restart if it is still fading out.
Also, the Sector 3 boss is kind of buggy. The conveyor belt just makes you go faster instead of pulling the playing in a direction, while the normal floor in front of the left doorway has the behavior of a working conveyor belt. The boss itself will freeze in the middle of its animations and the music will stop looping when it reaches 1 health. I can provide video of this if you'd like.
Overall the experience was pretty good! I especially like the ability to sequence break Sector 1 to get the shield ability early. I look forward to future developments.
I downloaded and extracted the game, but it keeps on crashing after it displays the Gamemaker studio splash screen. I am a really big fan of Metroid fusion, and was really looking forward to playing it. I'm sorry if I was I bother, and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors and development of the game.
The demo is great! The controls feel just right, the graphics look good and the map design is spot on.
But sadly, it crashed twice for me. Once after obtaining the X-Ray Vision in Sector 2 and once when activating the "train" to Sector 3. I can't remember the error message, but it definitely crashed.
I *think* I've fixed the crashes now (the sector 3 train crash was due to an object needed for the game's code not existing (because I forgot to put it there like the other ones)) and the xvision I think I've fixed as well now.
Now I've replaced the game file with an updated one without the game crashing bugs!
Yeah it should work since the file name I uploaded is the exact same as the previous one, so the ini save files I use for my game's save system can't tell the difference and basically let you play any different version as long as it has the same id. Though if it doesn't work then Idk.
I've not played any Metroidvania so far, so, I think I'm not the right person to give any comment on it, but ... you guessed it... this is the internet.
I liked the game quite a lot, great assets and very good gameplay. I think the main issue is that music is completely missing, which would add a great sense of atmosphere to the game. Also, I don't know what to to with the monster in the ice spikes room ... I suppose I should find out somehow, but I didn't feel like puzzling at the point. I think it's not an issue with the game, but rather me not being part of the genre for a reason, but you can judge that better.

Love the game but I just can't seem to finish it.

It's a pretty good metroidvania.

Is the new SAGE upload the full game? Worth checking out if we played the old one?
Yes it's the full game. But the special edition version will be released sometime next year.
I've done a lot of bug fixes since the previous version.
I'd appreciate it if you could check it out :)
I’ll wait for special edition then! Didn’t play the old version too long ago so may be good to give my brain a reset for a little longer

Thanks :) I tried to make a version of metroid fusion that still allowed for sequence breaking and more player freedom.
Anything you'd like to see done differently with the game?
It’s been a bit but I don’t remember anything getting in the way of the fun, so it’s hard to think of suggestions. Everything feels precise and intentional and that’s great
Thanks!
is your updated file right? It's an installer
Is there a problem?
When I opened the new 118MB file, it installs game maker, it's not the game.
Late reply but it seems you're right- the install does try to install game maker studio and not the game. I'll try to fix that.
EDIT: Fixed!

Also, do you remember how your map got so buggy with the markers? I tried for ages to fix it previously but I couldn't find out why it happened.
nope, I don’t think anything specific triggered it
Was this fixed in the SAGE demo? What changes are there?

What kind of jank could you possibly produce that lets the game run on Win10, but not on Win7? (Haven't tried it yet, just curious about your remark.)
No it's probably working on win7 since it works on win10 for me. I put that message there in the past because I someone had played it on win7 (I think?) but it didn't work for them somehow.

I would continue working on it, if game maker studio didn't lock me out.

Edit: So it looks like my game is beatable after all. I mention how at the top of my game's itch.io page.

The monkey boss is supposed to drop the next upgrade to progress but doesn't because of a bug.
I'm happy you guys enjoy this game.
Though I really wish GMS2 would let me work on my game again...
You would not believe how long I have been looking for this game, had this years ago for my computer before my dad reset it, I've been looking for this game ever since! I'm so happy, I'm almost crying! :)
I'm glad you like it :) What makes it appealing to you in the first place?
Also, Metroid Dread HYPE!!
I've always felt like Fusion was to restrictive when it came to exploration, And this game helped deliver an experience that would be similar to an Non Linear Fusion! Also The Sword Is the best!
Also I'm pretty sure I'm missing an upgrade from the misc. section, I have Wall scaler, Flashlight, Hydro Dash and Jet Jump.
And I believe some transitions are off, eg. when transitioning from sec 3 to sec 2 via that hidden pathway, I see that lava from 3 is flowing down and flooding 2. But if I enter another in 2 and return, the lava is gone. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Nah it's probably just a glitch I haven't fixed.
Though if you ever want to try making your own game one day, I'd advise you don't playtest your game yourself (like I did playing through every level hundreds of times, just looking for bugs), but have others do it for you if possible. This game is awesome, great job, keep working on it!!
Thank you!

nvm my computer needed an update
Thanks for trying out my game anyways, sorry this happened to you though =(
The demo is great! The controls feel just right, the graphics look good and the map design is spot on.

Can I just switch in the save file?
Yeah it should work since the file name I uploaded is the exact same as the previous one, so the ini save files I use for my game's save system can't tell the difference and basically let you play any different version as long as it has the same id. Though if it doesn't work then Idk.
There's some reddish block over the Map GUI now :/ but the rest works
I've not played any Metroidvania so far, so, I think I'm not the right person to give any comment on it, but ... you guessed it... this is the internet.
I liked the game quite a lot, great assets and very good gameplay. I think the main issue is that music is completely missing, which would add a great sense of atmosphere to the game. Also, I don't know what to to with the monster in the ice spikes room ... I suppose I should find out somehow, but I didn't feel like puzzling at the point. I think it's not an issue with the game, but rather me not being part of the genre for a reason, but you can judge that better.
Good job!
Thank you so much for trying my game out man =) I'm glad you like the gameplay too!
